Sing A Song

When life backs you against the wall
And this happens to us all
Or when the road has been too long
Stop long enough to write a song
Write a song, sing a song
Keep it humming all day long
No matter what the day is bringing
Let the morning find you singing
And if you can't write one yourself
The borrow one from someone else
All you have to do is listen
Words and music then some rhythm
And when you have done that awhile
Then it's time to get some style
Take a lesson, may be two
The find the song that's right for you

Color of The Crow

I'll write a poem about my sorrow Then I won't have to cry tommorrow I'll read it to myself and say That was the past, this is today And so I lie unto myself And put that chapter on a shelf And who's to say that it won't work I certainly won't be the first To catch a dream and wake again To find I'm locked out in the rain I fell like a star come crashing from heaven One flash of light and then forever How many years since I last saw That one I traded my heart for But I can no more love another Than the crow can change it's color

Broken Dreams

Nothing in the world it seems Shatters like a broken dream It is the ache behind the mean Of shadows silent and unseen And in this fortress dream of sorrow Exist no dawn and no tomorrow Just hours that cut you as they pass Like little shards of broken glass And yet another and another Sometimes the night is meant to suffer But look up now and see how far They light your way like little stars Oh if I had a star to shine For every broken dream of mine The whole night sky would turn to day And all my troubles melt away

Earth's In Love

Season's change and flowers too
So they may die and start anew
The sky may go from gray to blue
And some of us are like that too
Some of us are like the earth
Hiding diamonds in the dirt
Or gold and silver in the cave
Just waiting for the pick and spade
Hard as granite, cold as steel
Always heavy, always real
Yet always falling for the one
That must change from sun to sun
Oh that fateful night in June
When the earth fell for the moon
And winter fell in love with spring
And all the happiness it brings

House of Secrets

Sometimes it takes a while to find
What matters most is in the mind
Who is the guard and who the keeper
To this little house of secrets?
Where is the lock that holds the key
To secrets safe inside of me?
I may not have great wealth or talent
But I may choose to love or not
Surrounded by a swirling mist
Just like a prelude to a kiss
When I look within and see
There are no locks inside of me
There are no locks upon these doors
Only wide and open moors
Where I am free to come and go
And ask just what I want to know

Heart of Wood

I sit up late in my old room
Strumming out a sad old tune
The strings have made my fingers sore
But I still want to play some more
I have a polished, wooden heart
That's carved and bowed just like a harp
With strings so finely tuned that they
Just need a sigh to make them play
